FOUNDATION SIXTY6
For our final FIP, we worked with an actual client: Foundation Sixty6, an organization startup dedicated to youth mental healthcare. We were put into teams, each with a role, and tasked with creating a brand identity, social media and marketing strategies, and a website and it's content for the Foundation. We created advertisements, brochures, videos, social media posts, and came up with ideas for events. I was our team's motion designer.
SOFTWARE
VS Code, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, InDesign, XD
PROCESS
My team and I worked very collaboratively on this project, all helping each other with our various roles. I created our first logo, as well as our final logo. I also created illustrations to represent the three disorders that the Foundation was focusing on: Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and psychotic depression. I did not want to create any negative or scary imagery, but still somehow represent these illnesses visually. I decided to do plants, because they are neutral imagery but can be used symbolically. I used large, dark monstera leaves hovering over someone to represent psychotic depression, a split variegated pothos leaf to represent bipolar disorder, and a succulent blooming from behind someone's head to represent schizophrenia.
This project meant a lot to me. I am a strong mental health advocate, especially for young people. One of my ideas for our social media and marketing was to interview my counselor and have her talk about the importance of mental healthcare for youth, to help inspire people to donate and get involved with the cause. We also decided to interview the Foundation members so they could tell their story and what they're all about, in video form rather than text on the website.
CHALLENGES
Our first logo and colour palette was not well received, so we had to overhaul things and try something entirely new. So for the second logo that we ended up using, I went much more colourful and a totally different iconography.
FINAL RESULT
Overall, I am really happy with how our project turned out as a whole. It was well received by the client, and our presentations went well. One thing I learned about myself during this project is that I am actually really good at keeping my composure while presenting despite being nervous. I am excited to continue to hone this skill and present even better in the future. Currently, the website cannot be shown.
